The Prophecies of David

King David is most often thought of as a king, naturally, and as a courageous and brilliant military man. But David was also a musician and a composer. David played the harp and composed numerous of the psalms. A psaltery was a stringed musical instrument, a variety of harp or lyre, with ten strings. In English-language translations of the Scriptures, the "Psalms" take their name from psaltery. The related Greek word, pronounced psalmoi, means playing of harp strings.

"He hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm"

David's compositions were more than just common songs. They were always worshipful to The Lord, but sometimes also very prophetic of the coming Messiah, even startlingly so, as in this example from Psalm 22:16-18 where you witness Christ's crucifixion through Christ's own eyes: "For dogs have compassed Me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed Me: they pierced My hands and My feet. I may tell all My bones: they look and stare upon Me. They part My garments among them, and cast lots upon My vesture." (Psalm 22:16-18 KJV).

"The Lord hath said unto me, Thou art My Son; this day have I begotten Thee." (Psalm 2:7-9 KJV)

"He hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art My Son, this day have I begotten thee." (Acts 13:33 KJV)

"Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel." (Psalm 2:9 KJV)

"For Thou dost not give Me up to Sheol [see also Sheol and Hades], or let Thy Godly One see the Pit." (Psalm 16:10 KJV)

"Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption." (Acts 2:27 KJV)

"Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool." (Psalm 110:1 KJV)

"The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool" (Matthew 22:44 KJV)

"You are a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek." (Psalm 110:4 KJV)

"The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner." (Psalm 118:22 KJV)

"Blessed be He who enters in the name of The Lord!" (Psalm 118:26 KJV)

"And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest." (Matthew 21:9 KJV)
