Israelite Monarchy - The Messiah

When Israel divided into two kingdoms (see Israelite Monarchy - The Division Of Israel), the king of Judah, Rehoboam, was of the tribe of Judah, while the king of Israel, Jeroboam, was of the tribe of Ephraim. That division between Israel and Judah, between Ephraim and Judah, is going to be healed. All of Israel, Israel and Judah, are going to be gathered together at the time of Christ's return - and at that time their idolatry that destroyed both Israel (see Israelite Monarchy - The Northern Kingdom) and Judah (see Israelite Monarchy - The Southern Kingdom), and that still infects them all today, will also end.

"Thus says The Lord God: Behold, I am about to take the stick of Joseph which is in the hand of Ephraim and the tribes of Israel associated with him; and I will join with it the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, that they may be one in my hand. When the sticks on which you write are in your hand before their eyes, then say to them, Thus says The Lord God: Behold, I will take the people of Israel from the nations among which they have gone, and will gather them from all sides, and bring them to their own land; and I will make them one nation in the land, upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all; and they shall be no longer two nations, and no longer divided into two kingdoms. They shall not defile themselves any more with their idols and their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions; but I will save them from all the backslidings in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God." (Ezekiel 37:19-23 RSV)

And who will be their representative king of Israel before Christ? The resurrected King David, Israel's king before the division happened (see Israelite Monarchy - The United Kingdom).

"My servant David shall be king over them; and they shall all have one shepherd. They shall follow My ordinances and be careful to observe My statutes. They shall dwell in the land where your fathers dwelt that I gave to My servant Jacob; they and their children and their children's children shall dwell there for ever; and David My servant shall be their prince for ever." (Ezekiel 37:24-25 RSV)

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end

But King David will not hold the ultimate Throne of Israel. That will be occupied by the one who was Israel's King before Israel had human kings (see Israelite Monarchy - The Origin) - The Lord who brought Israel out of Egypt. And Who was that?

"I want you to know, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same supernatural food and all drank the same supernatural drink. For they drank from the supernatural Rock which followed them, and the Rock was Christ." (1 Corinthians 10:1-4 RSV)

The Israelites rejected The Lord, the King Who brought them out of Egypt - "and the Rock was Christ."

"And The Lord said to Samuel, "Hearken to the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them. According to all the deeds which they have done to Me, from the day I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, forsaking Me and serving other gods, so they are also doing to you." (1 Samuel 8:7-8 RSV)

Upon Christ's return, He is going to restore Himself as Israel's King, ruling the earth with lesser kings, including David (as quoted above), under Him. Jesus Christ was a physical heir of Israel's throne from His physical ancestor King David, but, as proven in the Scriptures quoted above, it was from Christ that David was given the throne of Israel to begin with. Christ's "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end" (Revelation 22:13 RSV) also applies to the Israelite Monarchy. David and his descendants were given Christ's throne, and have occupied it, until Christ returns to what has always belonged to Him.

"You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world" (John 18:37 RSV)

"Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! He who sat upon it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name inscribed which no one knows but Himself. He is clad in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which He is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, followed Him on white horses. From His mouth issues a sharp sword with which to smite the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; He will tread the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On His robe and on His thigh He has a name inscribed, King of kings and Lord of lords." (Revelation 19:11-16 RSV)

All of the earth will be ruled by The King of Israel, Jesus Christ:

"On that day living waters shall flow out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea and half of them to the western sea; it shall continue in summer as in winter. And The Lord will become King over all the earth; on that day The Lord will be one and His name one." (Zechariah 14:8-9 RSV)

"It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of The Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised up above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it, and many nations shall come, and say: "Come, let us go up to the mountain of The Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that He may teach us His ways and we may walk in His paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the Law, and the word of The Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between many peoples, and shall decide for strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more" (Micah 4:1-3 RSV)
