Psalm 97-99

Supplemental notes for the Daily Bible Study Bible Reading Plan

by Wayne Blank

Psalm Chapter 97

"The Lord reigns" is not happening with all of the people of earth yet, partly as a benefit to those relatively few who have begun their Process Of Conversion (see Why Does God Allow Evil?). The day is sure coming however when genuine Zionism will fill the entire earth; there will be no room for those who reject God's offer of salvation by refusing to repent (see They Shall Be Ashes).

"The Lord reigns; let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! Clouds and thick darkness are round about Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and burns up His adversaries round about [see Christ the Conqueror For Peace]. His lightnings lighten the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before The Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness; and all the peoples behold His glory.

All worshipers of images are put to shame, who make their boast in worthless idols; all gods bow down before him. Zion [see Daughter of Zion] hears and is glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoice, because of Thy judgments, O God.

For Thou, O Lord, art most high over all the earth; Thou art exalted far above all gods. The Lord loves those who hate evil; He preserves the lives of His saints; He delivers them from the hand of the wicked. Light dawns for the righteous [see Awaken To The Light], and joy for the upright in heart. Rejoice in The Lord, O you righteous, and give thanks to His Holy Name!" (Psalm 97:1-12 RSV)

Psalm Chapter 98

The Messiah is coming, this time not to be brutally savaged and rejected, but to rule. Then, "all the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God" will be fulfilled for eternity. The world of Darkness is going to end.

"A Psalm.

O sing to The Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things! His right hand and His holy arm have gotten Him victory [see Regime Change]. The Lord has made known His victory, He has revealed His vindication in the sight of the nations. He has remembered His steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel [see Spiritual and Physical Gatherings]. All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God.

Make a joyful noise to The Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! Sing praises to The Lord with the Lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody! With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, The Lord!

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who dwell in it! Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together before The Lord, for He comes to judge the earth [see When Will You Be Judged?]. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity." (Psalm 98:1-9 RSV)

Psalm Chapter 99

Might Makes Right (i.e. whoever has the most physical power decides what's intellectually "right") is not a bad principle in God's hands because The Lord is perfectly just and righteous. The Lord is not a hypocrite with how He uses His power (see What Almighty God Can't Do).

The Ten Commandments

"The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim [see also Christ's Mercy Seat]; let the earth quake! The Lord is great in Zion; He is exalted over all the peoples. Let them praise Thy great and terrible name! Holy is He!

Mighty King, lover of justice, Thou hast established equity; Thou hast executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. Extol The Lord our God; worship at His footstool! Holy is He! [see The Holy Father]

Moses [see The Trysting Tent] and Aaron were among His priests, Samuel also was among those who called on His Name. They cried to The Lord, and He answered them. He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud; they kept His testimonies, and the statutes that He gave them.

O Lord our God, Thou didst answer them; Thou wast a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their wrongdoings [see Why Did Christ Put Moses To Death?]. Extol The Lord our God, and worship at His holy mountain; for The Lord our God is holy!" (Psalm 99:1-9 RSV)
