From Husbands and Wives To Brothers and Sisters

The first marriage:

"2:21 And the LORD God [see Christ The Creator] caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 2:22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

2:23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

2:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed." (Genesis 2:21-25 KJV)

Moreover, marriage was instituted and enforceable for humans only while they live during their physical existence.

"7:1 Know ye not, brethren, for I speak to them that know the law, how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?

7:2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. 7:3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man." (Romans 7:1-3 KJV)

"For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage"

At the resurrection to salvation (see When Will You Be Judged?), there will be no more marriage because the spirit-born Children Of God will have God as their Father (see Spiritual Conception and Born Again, How and When?). People who were married may well know each other forever after their resurrection, but as brothers and sisters - and brothers and sisters don't marry.

The Holy Scriptures

"20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God" (John 20:17 KJV)

One day, the Sadducees, who believed "that there is no resurrection," confronted the Messiah with a question about marriage. Their failure to realize (or admit) that there is coming a resurrection was the reason that they asked the question. Otherwise, they would have already known the answer.

"22:23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection [see Resurrections], and asked him, 22:24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. 22:25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother: 22:26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. 22:27 And last of all the woman died also. 22:28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her." (Matthew 22:23-28 KJV)

Jesus' answer to them included the reason why the Sadducees asked the question to begin with i.e. "Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God."

"22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

22:31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, 22:32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead [see What Happens When You Die?], but of the living.

22:33 And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine." (Matthew 22:29-33 KJV)
