The Builder From The Beginning

The Words of the LORD God (see 'Before Abraham Was, I AM') to Job, describing how the Creation was like a building with "foundations," "measures" and a "corner stone."

"38:1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, 38:2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? 38:3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. 38:4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. 38:5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? 38:6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?" (Job 38:1-7 KJV)

The LORD God was later born as Jesus Christ:

"1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God. 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made [see Christ The Creator] ... 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." (John 1:1-3,14 KJV)

"The church of the living God"

Many places, professions and circumstances in the Holy Bible have a greater significance. Christ "the carpenter" was and is most definitely one of them. The true Christian "church" (which means people, not a building or a corporate entity - see What Is The Church? and Church of God) is the House that Christ is building - and is the building of (the reason that calling a typical bricks and mortar building a "church" is very much like making an idol of a man and calling it Christ - as millions of people do).

The Holy Scriptures

"3:14 These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth." (1 Timothy 3:14-15 KJV)

Christ is building "a spiritual house."

"2:1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby [see Growing In The Grace And Knowledge]: 2:3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious."

"2:4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion [see Anti-Zion Is Anti-Christ] a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

2:7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner [see Israelite Monarchy - The Messiah], 2:8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light [see Awaken To The Light]: 2:10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and Pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 2:12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation." (1 Peter 2:1-12 KJV)

Just as Christ is providing quality workmanship, so too the "building materials" that compose the building must be free of defects. Notice the builder's terms used for the Church of God in this verse quote e.g. "house," "hold fast," "without wavering," "the assembling" etc.

"10:20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh [see Why Was It Torn?]; 10:21 And having an high priest over the house of God; 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised; 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works [see Works Means Obedience]: 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment [see When Will You Be Judged? and Could Christ Return Tonight?] and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries." (Hebrews 10:20-27 KJV)
