Do You Want A Servant Or A Serpent?
The English word "minister" originated from a Latin word, by the same spelling, which meant one who acts under the authority of a superior (The Consolidated Webster Encyclopedic Dictionary). Minister means servant, as do the actual Hebrew and Greek words of the Holy Scriptures that are translated as "minister."
Throughout the Holy Bible (see the Fact Finder question below), "minister" means servant. Nothing more. Nothing less.
But who does a "minister" actually serve? For example, if someone works in a restaurant, do they serve the people who come there to receive what's being served? Yes, but why and how are they served? Can the servant do anything that the people ask? What if the people request something that the employer says not to do? Is the servant answerable to the demands of the customers, or to the commands of the employer? The answer of course is obvious. The servant obeys the word of the one that made them a servant, not the ones that are being served - otherwise they are a worthless, unfaithful and rebellious servant.
The same principle applies to preaching the Word of God. True ministers of God serve (just as servants in that restaurant serve food) our spiritual "daily bread," the written Word and Commandments of God, not the "tell us what we want or we won't like you" narcissistic whims of unrepentant, self-worshipping people. True servants of God are not neutered little lap poodles who exist solely to obediently do "tricks" for their "mistress" ("17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth" Revelation 17:5 KJV; see also What And Where Is Babylon Today?).
The apostle Paul stated it very plainly:
"1:10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ." (Galatians 1:10 KJV)
"I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted" - "Speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits"
Most unconverted people (especially those who call themselves "Christian") love to be told the "truth" about others (e.g. see Gossip Against The Gospel), but absolutely detest being told any Truth about themselves, particularly when it involves obeying God in the way that God truly commands. In doing so, they aren't merely wrapping their "Christianity" in themselves; they are being bound and spiritually suffocated by the deception and influence of Satan, the serpent - and they're loving every minute of that perverted bondage ("but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers").
The result of their Lethal Lust goes like this:
"30:9 That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD [see 'Before Abraham Was, I AM']: 30:10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: 30:11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us." (Isaiah 30:9-11 KJV)
But notice that those are supposedly religious people. They say that they want to be, or are, God's people, but they demand to do and be so, not as God has commanded, but in their own self-righteous and self-worshipping way - they want a play-acting religion. So, to accommodate their arrogant rebellion, they find (whether in person, or by trolling the Internet for those who "speak unto us smooth things") pleasing servants of man, in reality, serpents of man (considering that it was Satan that started it all) to preach to them the religious or political garbage that no servant of God would ever do.
"4:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
The apostle Paul warned Christians to not pervert the true Gospel of the coming Kingdom of God, in which the LORD will rule all nations under His Law (see Moriah: Separating The Wheat From The Chaff and The Coming World Dictator), either by allowing themselves to be deceived by ignoring the Word of God, or by ignoring the Word of God and finding themselves a serpent to preach their own little religious fantasies to them.
"1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Merely claiming Christ's Name doesn't make anyone a Christian; it makes them, and those who preach to them, a fraud to which, if they don't repent, Jesus Christ is one day going to say to them, just as He did to Satan, "Depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
"7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate [see also The Strait Gate]: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat [see Is Your Religion Your Religion?]: 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Fact Finder: Where can we truly begin to set ourselves free from Satan's deception?
This Day In History, July 6
371 BC: The Battle of Leuctra in Greece; Epaminondas defeated Cleombrotus I.
1189: King Henry II of England, the first of the Plantagenets, died and was succeeded by Richard I.
1415: Jan Hus (also known in English as John Huss), Czech preacher and reformer, was burnt alive for "heresy" by Church of Rome authorities during the Council of Constance. The council was conducted by antipope John XXIII and German emperor Sigismund (see Emperors and Popes and Ein Volk! Ein Reich! Ein Euro!; also The Struggle For The Papacy). The emperor had given Hus a guarantee of safe passage to come to the council, but reneged and had Hus killed anyway. The Hussites were named after Jan Hus, and the Hussite Wars of 1419-1436 were caused by the Hussites in Bohemia and Moravia.
1483: Richard III was crowned King of England.
1519: Charles of Spain is elected Holy Roman emperor in Barcelona.
1535: Sir Thomas More, former Lord Chancellor of England, was executed for treason after refusing to recognize Henry VIII as the head of the Church of England.
1536: Jacques Cartier returns to France after discovering (for Europeans - the native people already knew it) the St. Lawrence River in Canada.
1553: King Edward VI of England died and was succeeded by Queen Mary I.
1699: Captain William Kidd ("Captain Kidd") was arrested in Boston.
1785: The "dollar" was chosen as the monetary unit for the U.S. The word originated in Europe in 1520 as a name for the Czech tolar, which came to be known in northern Europe as daler, then into English as dollar.
1885: French scientist Louis Pasteur successfully tested his new anti-rabies vaccine on a boy that had been bitten by an infected dog.
1887: David Kalakaua, the native King of Hawaii, was forced at gunpoint to sign the "Bayonet Constitution" that established U.S. rule Hawaii.
1906: The Ontario Parliament passed the "Lord's Day Observance Act" to prohibit work, entertainment, sport and almost all commerce on Sundays. Although the writers of the law intended it as an act of obedience to God, they were mistaken about the correct day to observe (see Why Observe The True Sabbath? to understand how the "sun day" abomination originated). The law was struck down by the Supreme Court of Canada in 1985 after challenges from Jews and true Christians who observe the Seventh Day Sabbath according to Christ's Command in the Fourth Commandment (see 'Before Abraham Was, I AM' to understand that the "God of the Old Testament" was "the LORD God" who was born as Jesus Christ).
1917: "Lawrence of Arabia" (a British army officer, Lt. Col Thomas Lawrence) and Arab forces captured Aqaba from the Ottoman Empire during the Arab Revolt (listen to the Sermons The Ottoman Empire and The European World Wars).
1919: The first airship to cross the Atlantic, the British R-34, arrived in New York.
1942: The diarist Anne Frank and her family took refuge from the Nazis in Amsterdam.
1944: A fire accidentally started by performing "fire-eaters" in the main tent of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus in Hartford, Connecticut, killed 167 people.
1947: The AK-47 went into production in the Soviet Union.
1958: The former Russian territory of Alaska became the 49th state of the U.S. It was purchased from Russia in 1867 for $7.2 million.
2006: Hugh Thompson died at age 62. During the Vietnam War, the former U.S. Army helicopter pilot from Atlanta, Georgia, at age 24, along with his crew, stopped the infamous U.S. massacre at My Lai by landing his helicopter between the Vietnamese men, women and children and the U.S. troops who had already murdered about 500 of them. Thompson ordered his two door gunners to open fire on the U.S. troops if they didn't stop their murders of helpless women and children. None of the U.S. troops who committed the war crimes were punished for carrying out the unlawful orders of their commander ("We were just following orders"). Their commander, Lt. William Calley, was the only one convicted - for which he spent a comfortable 3 years under house arrest. Hugh Thompson was ostracized at the time, but is now regarded as an extremely courageous and honorable warrior - a genuine hero.
