The LORD's Two Witnesses Versus Satan's Two Witnesses
"These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth"
The return of Jesus Christ to establish the Kingdom of God on Earth (see Repent, For The Kingdom Of Heaven Is At Hand) will be preceded by a 42-month period of great tribulation. During that time, the entire world will come to know four people, two on each side, who will miraculously dispute the LORD's Truth versus Satanic deception. At the end of the 42 month period, all four of them will be killed - with the "two witnesses" of the LORD resurrected to eternal life, and the "beast" and his "great false prophet" cast into the lake of fire where they will be obliterated forever.
The "two witnesses" will "prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days" (42 months), after having been given the miraculous means to defend themselves: "if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed."
"11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein [see The Holy Place In History And Prophecy and The Temple Vessel Prophecies Today]. 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
When their ministry has been completed, the LORD will permit the martyrdom of His two witnesses. Their dead bodies will be left in the streets of Jerusalem "three days and an half."
"11:7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
The two witnesses will then be resurrected and ascend to heaven, just like the Messiah did, not far from where the Messiah did, from which they will then return with the Messiah.
"11:11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. 11:12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud [see What Happened When The Messiah Arrived In Heaven?]; and their enemies beheld them.
The martyrdom and resurrection of the two witnesses will occur at the same time as the final "abomination of desolation" (see the Fact Finder question below).
"11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever [see The Coming World Dictator and The Church: Mission Accomplished].
"There was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months"
The two witnesses of the LORD will be opposed by the Satan-empowered "beast" - a great military ("Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him") and political power over the entire Earth ("all the world wondered after the beast").
"13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea [see From What Sea Has The Beast Risen?], having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy [see Blaspheming The Name Of God].
The Church of Rome was created by the Emperors of Rome, who maintained superior authority over the Papacy (see Emperors and Popes). So it will be in the end-time, with the "Beast" committing the greater "blasphemy against God."
"13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
The political / military "beast," just like the Caesars centuries before (e.g. see Nero's Torches), will cause great persecution upon the true Church of God - the people, all around the world, who obey the Word of God (see What Does Word of God Mean To You?).
"13:9 If any man have an ear, let him hear. 13:10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints [see Why Does The LORD Permit Persecution?]." (Revelation 13:9-10 KJV)
The "Beast" will have his "great false prophet" who will lead the state worship of the "Beast" - like so many others, ancient and modern, the "beast" will claim to be "divine."
"13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon [see The Messiah's Warning About Christian Charlatans].
The 42-month Satanic rampage of the "beast" and his "great false prophet" will end at the return of Jesus Christ, a few days after the two witnesses had been martyred, as we read above.
"19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
The world of "Babylon" (see What And Where Is Babylon Today?) will attempt to fight the Messiah at His return ("the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war"), but "the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone."
"19:17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 19:18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.
Satan will also be put away on the day of Christ's return.
"20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 20:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season [see Sending Away The Escapades Goat].
Fact Finder: What are the only proofs that the return of Jesus Christ is soon to happen?
