Revelation 9: The Business Of War - Swords Into Plowshares
"The shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle ... They had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails"
Humanity has had the means to destroy itself for a long time with its wars of politics and religion, but in the present day, a third factor has become very powerful - wars are manipulated into happening by string-pulling corporations whose business is the manufacture of armaments. U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower, in his retirement address, prophetically warned of that very "military-industrial complex" that can turn a label of "defense" into an endless war for profit.
Notice that when the LORD's wrath comes upon those who will attempt to make war on Him ("17:14 These shall make war with the Lamb" Revelation 17:4 KJV), it won't just be heads of state and their high-ranking military commanders who will flee to their bunkers, but also the war profiteers and their personal servants i.e. "the rich men and the chief captains."
"6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?" (Revelation 6:15-17 KJV)
But the LORD has not permitted humanity to destroy itself with its idols of destruction, not for the sake of the arrogant and evil who lust for war, but for the sake of the humble and righteous.
"24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." (Matthew 24:22 KJV)
The "seven seals" of the scroll that The Father wrote and gave to the Messiah when He returned to the Throne of God in heaven (see The Seals, Trumpets And Vials Of The Messiah's Return) is a detailed prophecy of the fall of Satan's deceived world - and the coming of the Kingdom of God.
Many of the things of the end-time were described to prophets of long ago in analogy or metaphor. For example, war helicopters are referred to as "locusts" with armor plating and "stings in their tails" (i.e. missiles). As we can plainly read in the verses below, the Holy Scriptures describe them in amazingly-accurate detail.
Note also that the war helicopters can be from any nation - the point of the prophecy isn't about the "good guys" versus "the bad guys," but that the LORD, at that time, will no longer restrain humanity from all-out war with itself. To use the popular term (that is actually more Biblically-accurate than many people realize), "all hell is going to break loose."
"9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. 9:2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. 9:3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 9:4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. 9:5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. 9:6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
And so the prophetic seals will continue to be opened (see The Seals, Trumpets And Vials Of The Messiah's Return) - until, at their completion, the Messiah will return to restore His Kingdom of Peace and Truth.
"9:13 And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, 9:14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. 9:15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. 9:16 And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.
Fact Finder: From the day of Christ's return, the industries of the world, along with humanity, will also be converted. What does "swords into plowshares" mean?
This Day In History, November 12
764: Tibetan troops occupied Chang'an, the capital of China's Tang Dynasty.
1035: King Canute of Denmark (ruled England, Norway and Denmark) died at age 40.
1439: Plymouth, England, became the first town incorporated by the English Parliament.
1812: In their retreat from Moscow, the remnants of Napoleon's "Grand Army" crossed the River Berezina; 10,000 sick or wounded were left behind to die.
1833: A meteorite deluge occurred, estimated at 1,000 per minute. Scientists believe that about 25,000,000 enter earth's atmosphere each day.
1859: In Paris, France, the first flying trapeze act was performed, by Jules Leotard at the Cirque Napoleon, without a safety net. The body-hugging costume he used was later named after him - leotards.
1867: A major eruption of Mount Vesuvius (one of many in history) in Italy began and lasted for several months.
1912: A search party found the remains of British explorer Robert Scott and his companions after their ill-fated South Pole expedition.
1918: The day after the First World War armistice (listen to our Sermon The European World Wars), Emperor Karl of Austria-Hungary abdicated, making Austria a republic.
1923: Adolf Hitler (see Presidential Quotes On War, Terrorism, Religion) was arrested for his failed "Beer Hall Putsch" 4 days earlier.
1933: The Nazis Party and their leader Adolf Hitler received 92% of the vote in the German election (see Why Does Satan Love Liars?).
1938: High-ranking Nazi official Hermann Goering stated that Madagascar should become a Jewish homeland.
1939: The occupying Nazi forces in Poland ordered Jews to wear yellow arm bands.
1942: The British 8th Army under General Bernard Montgomery captured Tobruk in Libya, taking over 30,000 German prisoners (see also Libya In History And Prophecy).
1944: The German battleship Tirpitz, sister ship of the Bismarck and Hitler's last major warship, was sunk by Lancaster bombers at Tromso Fjord in northern Norway.
1948: In the aftermath of the Second World War, Japanese Prime Minister Hikedi Tojo and 7 others were sentenced to hang by a U.S. war crimes court for "breaching laws and customs of war." Among the specified war crimes for which they were convicted and sentenced to death by U.S. judges was the waterboarding torture of prisoners - the very same form of torture used in the present-day "war on terror."
Waterboarding was actually invented during the Church of Rome's "Inquisition" in which people were tortured into "conversion."
1968: The U.S. Supreme Court overturned an Arkansas law that banned the teaching of evolution in public schools (see Rescuing Charles Darwin From The Atheists).
1969: After the "classified" incident was made public by independent investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, the U.S. Army announced that it was investigating Lt. William Calley for his ordering the massacre of over 500 Vietnamese civilians (unarmed old men, women and babies) in their village of My Lai in March 1968. Calley was later convicted of the war crimes, but was quietly released from custody not long afterward.
Among the war criminals awaiting the LORD's justice will not be Hugh Thompson. The U.S. Army helicopter pilot from Atlanta, Georgia, at age 24, along with his crew, stopped the infamous U.S. massacre at My Lai by landing his helicopter between the Vietnamese men, women and children and the U.S. troops who had already murdered about 500 of them. Thompson ordered his two door gunners to open fire on the U.S. troops if they didn't stop their murders of helpless women and children. Hugh Thompson was ostracized at the time, but is now regarded as an extremely courageous and honorable warrior - a genuine hero. Hugh Thompson died in 2006 at age 62.
1982: Yuri Andropov was elected First Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party following the death of Leonid Brezhnev.
