What Did Humans Eat Before The Flood?
"Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed"
The English word "meat" originated from an ancient Anglo-Saxon word that referred to food in general, whether of animal, vegetable or fruit. At the time of the writing of the King James Version in 1611, the original general definition of "meat" was still utilized, as stated by the KJV translators in Genesis where "meat" was used to refer to vegetables. Humans began, by design and by command of the LORD (Who was Jesus Christ; see A Biography Of Jesus Christ: The LORD God Of Creation), as vegetarians. They were to "rule" over the other living creatures, but not eat them; even the first animals were vegetarians.
"1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them [see also The Only Child Of The Garden and Grace In The Garden).
Humans remained as vegetarians for many centuries. It was only after the Flood (see also How Did The Flood Happen?) that the LORD declared that humans were thereafter permitted to eat the flesh of other creatures, that were classified as "clean," and that were drained of their lifeblood. Notice how that dietary law was applied, with and as, to the law against murder.
"9:1 And God blessed Noah [see also The LORD's Seed Covenants With The Two Men Of Iraq] and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. 9:2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. 9:3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
It was also a command against cannibalism - the killing of other humans for food. There is no other reason to state the two principles together as one, when referring to food, or "meat." It was also the primary reason that people, including some of His disciples, were horrified when they misunderstood the Messiah's teaching about eating His flesh and drinking His blood ("How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"). So, "From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him."
"6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. 6:48 I am that bread of life. 6:49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 6:50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
Although many people regard the book of Leviticus to be "Jewish" (to understand that the people of Judah are just one of the twelve tribes of Israel, and that "Judaism" came into existence long after the LORD gave the pure instructions to Israel, see A Biography Of Jacob: The Jacobites Of Syria, Who Is Judah? and Israel In History and Prophecy: Judaism), it is in fact a detailed prophecy of Christianity (see Leviticus: The Prophecies Of Christianity). The King James Version uses "meat" for both animal and vegetable in Leviticus, but notice from these examples how they were portraying what the Messiah taught, as quoted in the verses above.
"2:11 No meat offering, which ye shall bring unto the LORD, shall be made with leaven [see The Messiah's Days Of Unleavened Bread]: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the LORD made by fire. 2:12 As for the oblation of the firstfruits [see Pentecost: The Christian Feast Of Firstfruits], ye shall offer them unto the LORD: but they shall not be burnt on the altar for a sweet savour. 2:13 And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt. 2:14 And if thou offer a meat offering of thy firstfruits unto the LORD, thou shalt offer for the meat offering of thy firstfruits green ears of corn dried by the fire, even corn beaten out of full ears." (Leviticus 2:11-14 KJV)
Fact Finder: All seed-bearing plants were created "good." Does that mean that all seed-bearing plants now are "good"?
This Day In History, January 16
27 BC: With his defeat of the remnant of the Greek Empire (see The Cleopatra Connection), Octavian ("Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus"), thereafter known as Caesar Augustus, became the first Roman emperor (see A History Of Jerusalem: Pompey And The Caesars). Augustus was emperor at the time of the birth of Jesus Christ (Luke 2:1-7; see also Does Rome Have Christ's Birth Certificate?).
550: The Ostrogoths (a Germanic people) under King Totila conquered Rome after a prolonged siege. Germany itself eventually became the Roman Empire of end-time prophecy (see The Holy Roman Empire Of The German Nation).
