The Eighth Day: The Rest Of The Dead Resurrection

"But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished ... Ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves"

The Messiah observed all of His genuine Christian Biblical Holy Days because He, as the LORD God (see The Real Jesus: The Word Of The LORD God), established and commanded them to be observed. Although the people of Judaism later modified the observances for themselves and their own kingdom (see Israel In History and Prophecy: Judaism and Israel Never Knew Purim, Hanukkah Or Judaism), that did not affect the infinitely-greater actual prophetic Christian purpose of the Holy Days.

Jesus Christ observed the Feast of Tabernacles (see The Messiah's Feast Of Tabernacles) and the Eighth Day, "the last day, that great day of the Feast."

"7:37 In the last day, that great day of the Feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." (John 7:37-38 KJV)

Flowing Waters

The apostle John (who was also the prophet John, from his writing of the Book of Revelation) recorded the same proclamation when the LORD repeated it for the Apocalypse (from a Greek word that means to reveal - hence the reason that the Book is also called "Revelation" or "Revelations"; see Revelation, Revelations or Apocalypse?) - with the same warning for those who refuse to repent:

"21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." (Revelation 21:6-8 KJV)

Although "cemetery" is usually defined today as a place of the dead, the original meaning of the word meant a place of those who sleep (see Eutychus - Rising From The Sleep Of Death). The English word "cemetery" originated from a Greek word, pronounced koimeterion, which literally means a sleeping place - a Biblically-correct definition.

"4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God [see The Feast Of Trumpets Prophecy; also Looking Up To The Messiah: How And When?]: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (1 Thessalonians 4:14-17 KJV)

Happy Day

Until the times of resurrection (see The Harvest Prophecies), the dead are dead - in peaceful and absolute unconsciousness, with no sense of the passage of time (see Could Christ Return Tonight? and Repent, For The Kingdom Of Heaven Is At Hand). It makes no difference whether they were buried or cremated (see Dust and Ashes and Isaac: Rising From The Ashes).

"9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten" [i.e. their memory ceases to function while they are dead - those still alive remember them] (Ecclesiastes 9:5 KJV)

Those who die have no conscious awareness. Dead means dead - until, at the next moment of their restored consciousness (i.e. death to resurrection will seem instantaneous, even if the dead person has been dead for centuries; again, see Could Christ Return Tonight?) they are resurrected from the dead. There would be no need for a resurrection if the dead were somehow already alive, or alive and dead at the same time. The resurrection of the Messiah from the dead is the prime example.

"15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." (1 Corinthians 15:20-22 KJV)

According to the Word of God, there are two major resurrections of humanity coming. The first resurrection will happen on the day of Christ's return - a resurrection to spirit (their salvation will be complete), from which "they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years" (see When And Where Your Eternal Life Will Begin). The second resurrection will occur after the 1,000 years, but those people will be resurrected back to physical life - from which they will then have their first opportunity to understand and obey what those of the first resurrection had done earlier.

"20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished.

This is the first resurrection. 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years." (Revelation 20:4-6 KJV)

Mountain

"Ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves"

The Feast of Tabernacles is a prophecy of those first 1,000 years after Christ's return (see The Feast Of Tabernacles In History And Prophecy) i.e. "This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years" (see What Is The Day Of The LORD? and The Church In The Kingdom Of God). The Eighth Day is a prophecy of "But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished."

"23:39 Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD [see Who Is The LORD?] seven days: on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath.

23:40 And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days.

23:41 And ye shall keep it a feast unto the LORD seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month." (Leviticus 23:39-41 KJV)

Jesus Christ created and observed the Feast of Tabernacles and the Eighth Day (again, see The Feast Of Tabernacles In History And Prophecy) - for both their Christian historic observance and their Christian prophetic significance (see Calendar of Christ's Holy Days).

"7:14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught." (John 7:14 KJV)

"7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

7:39 But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified." (John 7:37-39 KJV)

The famous "dry bones" prophecy, about Israelites (see Israel In History and Prophecy: The New Covenant), is a prime example of the later physical resurrection, of all of humanity, when those people will get their first opportunity, by means of the Holy Spirit that they didn't have when they first lived, to know and live by the Word of God - after which they too will be granted salvation unto spirit. It is that latter time of awakening and Judgment that is portrayed and prophesied by the Eighth Day of the Feast of Tabernacles.

Dry Bones

"37:1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones, 37:2 And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry. 37:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live?

And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.

37:4 Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. 37:5 Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live: 37:6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

37:7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone. 37:8 And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.

37:9 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. 37:10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

37:11 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts. 37:12 Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. 37:13 And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves, 37:14 And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD." (Ezekiel 37:1-14 KJV)

When all has been done (see The Church: Mission Accomplished), the lake of fire will consume all of those, who lived through all of the ages, who refused to repent and live by the Truth (see The Lake Of Fire Into An Ocean Of Fire - When?).

"20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." (Revelation 20:11-15 KJV)

This Day In History, October 1

331 BC: Greek / Macedonian forces under Alexander the Great (see The Greek Empire: Alexander Of Macedonia and The Greek Empire: Alexander's March To India) defeated Persian forces under Darius III at the Battle of Arbela (also known as the Battle of Gaugamela) in Assyria. Alexander's decisive victory led to the fall of the Persian Empire and the rise of the Greek Empire.

The Persian and Greek empires, as well as Alexander and Darius, are all recorded and prophesied in the Bible (see The Prophet Daniel: The Ram and The He Goat, The Prophet Daniel: Nebuchadnezzar's Image, Israel In History and Prophecy: Babylon and Persia and A History Of Jerusalem: Greeks, Ptolemies, Seleucids).

1814: The Congress of Vienna opened. Its purpose was to redraw Europe's political map after the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte the previous spring (see also The Holy Roman Empire Of The German Nation).

1818: The Congress of Aix-la-Chapelle began. It lasted until November 15. It was the first of four congresses held by Britain, Austria, Prussia, Russia and France to discuss and take common action on European problems following the Napoleonic Wars (1800-1815).

1853: The Toronto Globe became a daily paper.

1908: Henry Ford's "Model T" Ford went on sale for the first time, with a price of $825.

1914: During the First World War (1914-1918), Turkey (i.e. the Ottoman Empire) closed the Dardenelles to the Allies (see also The Assassination That Triggered Two World Wars).

1918: Arab forces, assisted by the British under T.E. Lawrence ("Lawrence of Arabia"), captured Damascus from the Ottomans (see A History Of Jerusalem: The British Mandate).

1936: General Francisco Franco was named head of the Nationalist government in Spain.

1938: German troops crossed into the Sudetenland following an agreement between Britain, France, Germany and Italy to avoid war over Czechoslovakia. The policy of appeasing Adolf Hitler's territorial demands ended the next year when Germany invaded Poland, thereby beginning the Second World War (see also Presidential Quotes On War, Terrorism, Religion).

1939: British Prime Minister Winston Churchill made his famous remark describing Soviet foreign policy as "a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma."

1945: David Ben Gurion sent a coded message to Moshe Sneh, the Haganah commander, to begin terrorist operations against British forces in "Palestine" (see Where Is Palestine?) - despite the fact that the British were lawfully there, under a UN mandate, to enable the people of Judah to become free and independent of the Muslim Ottoman Empire that had ruled the land of Israel for centuries (see Israel In History and Prophecy: Balfour Declaration; also Israel In History and Prophecy: Israel Of Judah).

1946: The first trial of Nazi leaders at Nuremberg ended, which coincided with The Day of Atonement that year on the Roman calendar (it's always the tenth day of the seventh month on the Biblical calendar). Twelve Nazi war criminals were sentenced to be hanged: Karl Donitz, Hermann Goring, Alfred Jodl, Hans Frank, Wilhelm Frick, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, Wilhelm Keitel, Joachin von Ribbentrop, Fritz Saukel, Arthur Seyss-Inquart, Julius Streicher, and Alfred Rosenberg.

Panama
1990: A small asteroid the size of a two-car garage and weighing about 100 tons entered the atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean about 1,900 miles (3,000 kilometers) off the coast of British Columbia, Canada. At an estimated speed of 40,000 miles per hour (65,000 kilometers per hour) it almost instantly broke apart and exploded about 20 miles (32 kilometers) above the ocean. The blast had a force about equal to the Hiroshima atomic bomb and for a moment must have looked like a second sun in the sky. No one on earth saw it coming, or saw it explode. The only record of the event came from a military satellite that watches for unannounced rocket launches and explosions. That satellite, and others like it, have recorded an average of 9 atmospheric bursts per month since 1975, all from the entry of small asteroids.

1995: A U.S. jury found Egyptian cleric Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman and 9 others guilty of plotting to blow up the World Trade Center, bomb the UN building, kill Egypt's president, and destroy vital highway tunnels in New York.
